I can’t keep my trap shut – and you can’t make me! But you can fire me for it. I sometimes wonder about this, insofar as limiting people hiring me to contract for them because of my words and actions in social spaces.  Shea Allen, a former ABC affiliate TV reporter sounds a lot like me, in that respect.  The reporter, who describes herself as a “full-time smarty pants” in her Twitter profile  has shamelessly admitted to doing other silly things and perhaps rather benign things whilst on the job, all in her blog, entitled: “No Apologies: Confessions of a Red Headed Reporter”.

I think this TIME story is misleading and it’s clear that Ms. Allen was fired more for her unprofessional attitude and actions, rather than just being braless, and this is a clear case of how what you say socially can hurt you professionally.  I, however guess I don’t see much wrong with it, except that her smart-ass attitude could be seen as disdain for her job.
